Delivered a flexible, accessible, audience-centered WordPress site on time for a landmark Centennial season under tight budget and timeline constraints.
The Challenge

An Ambitious Rebuild On a Tight Timeline

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic needed a modern digital presence capable of elevating audience engagement, simplifying concert and subscription discovery, and providing staff with flexible, unencumbered content management tools. However, the project came with rigid real-world constraints: a non-negotiable launch deadline tied to the organization’s historic Centennial season and a carefully managed nonprofit budget.

The core challenge was to completely reimagine a complex, aging website without letting timeline pressure or financial boundaries force compromises on quality or user experience.

The Strategy

Design the System, Not Every Individual Page

Rather than scaling back the project’s vision, New Why changed the development methodology. We deployed a component-driven WordPress strategy, focusing bespoke design and strategy on high-impact user touchpoints while engineering a flexible library of custom Gutenberg blocks for remaining layouts.

This modular approach allowed design, back-end development, content creation, and site migration to run seamlessly in parallel. By establishing a unified design system, we gave the Philharmonic an adaptable platform built to scale far beyond their initial launch.

Execution

Focused Custom Development & Collaborative Migration

By structuring the project around close collaboration with the Philharmonic’s internal team, New Why concentrated technical resources where they produced maximum ROI while keeping content population moving smoothly alongside the build.

01Audience-Centered Architecture

Reengineered site navigation around clear, intuitive pathways for ticket buyers, donors, subscribers, and community programs.

02Custom Priority Pages

Applied bespoke UX and visual design to high-converting landing pages rather than spending resources individually designing every lower-tier page.

03Flexible Design System

Built a custom library of reusable Gutenberg components that maintains visual brand consistency while giving staff complete freedom to assemble new pages.

04Integrated Event Experience

Restructured performances, concert series, and calendar pages to make browsing effortless and naturally guide visitors toward ticketing and subscription funnels.

05Collaborative Content Migration

Established a shared migration workflow that enabled the Philharmonic team to build out pages using newly engineered block components while New Why finalized back-end development.

06Accessible, Sustainable Foundation

Replaced a bloated page-builder environment with a fast, mobile-optimized, accessibility-conscious WordPress build designed for Core Web Vitals performance.

How We Made It Work

Our Approach to Right-Sized Web Development

We don’t believe custom web development requires custom-building every single screen from scratch. The most effective digital strategy focuses high-level design and engineering where they drive the most value, then leverages a cohesive component library to systematically build out the rest of the site.

Our in-house, component-driven approach delivers the polished, high-end feel of an enterprise website while keeping investments aligned with real-world budgets, project timelines, and internal team capacities.

The Outcome

Centennial Launch Success & Operational Growth

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic successfully launched its sophisticated new digital home right on schedule for its Centennial season, staying strictly within budget and capacity constraints.

The upgraded site combines an intuitive, audience-first ticket discovery journey with a scalable WordPress design system the organization can manage independently for years to come, proving that thoughtful operational constraints can drive exceptional creative and technical execution.

“Great callout here! ”

“New Why made the daunting task of a speedy web rebuild feel manageable. An organized, collaborative approach from the very beginning of the project resulted in focused development where it would matter most for our patrons. The result was a polished, on-brand website that fit our budget and didn’t overwhelm our team.

Content, feedback, and migration moving alongside the build rather than in separate stages allowed us to launch the site on schedule for our 100th season, and it’s one we can easily keep building upon going forward.”

Jason, Communications & Marketing, Colorado Springs Philharmonic

The Takeaway

A strict budget and aggressive deadline don’t have to result in a lesser website. With clear strategic priorities, close partner collaboration, and a flexible Gutenberg design system, operational constraints create the discipline needed to focus investment where it matters most.
